Ice cream can help you get pregnant!

I hope you’ll all excuse just a short interruption to my otherwise chronological tale of infertility, but I just stumbled across an interesting article about infertility and ice cream, and I wanted to mention it.

It turns out that this article was published about eighteen months ago when research was released to suggest a link between high-fat dairy foods and ovulation. Of course, the headline makes it sound like if I run out and eat tub after tub of ice cream, I’ll miraculously get pregnant. As you’d expect, that’s not quite true.

Apparently a Harvard study found a link in a study looking at the eating habits of women who don’t regularly ovulate. Those who only ate yogurt or low-fat dairy products had a much lower rate of pregnancy than those who ate three or more serves of high fat dairy products a week, and that includes stuff like ice cream.

Two things wrong here from my personal point of view. First, if I started eating tons of ice cream, I might look pregnant from the weight gain, but that’s not what I’m hoping to achieve! Second, all the tests indicate that I do actually ovulate regularly, so I don’t really fall into the category of women who might possibly be helped by this. Too bad, hey! Especially as I just discovered there is ice cream left in the freezer from when my in-laws were visiting recently. Perhaps it’s better to be safe than sorry and I’ll go and try a bowl, just to be sure.
